Greece has awarded citizenship to three migrant fishers who rescued Greeks from a wildfire outside Athens last July. Greek President, Prokopis Pavlopoulos, thanked the two Egyptian and one Albanian fishers for their role in rescuing dozens of people who were forced into the sea or became trapped on beaches as the fire took hold. At least 90 people lost their lives in the fire on the Attica Peninsula.
President Pavlopoulos said the men’s actions exemplified “the spirit of European humanism and solidarity”.
