It outlines how to cope safely with the experience of being held hostage. Most hostages are not subject to violence if they cooperate with their captors, although they may be held hostage for long periods of time in very difficult conditions.
It highlights how important it is for seafarers to talk about hostage experiences after they are released (to the relevant authorities, to their unions, and to their companies) and to accept whatever medical and psychological assistance may be offered.
