More migrants rescued from English Channel

14 Dec 2018

More migrants and refugees have been detected and rescued attempting to make the dangerous crossing across the English Channel from France to the English coast. Their small inflatable boats and rubber dinghies risk the hazards of crossing the world’s busiest shipping lane.

In a recent incident, six migrants called the Kent police after they got lost in the Channel. The coastguard assisted Border Force coastal patrol vessels in finding them and, after a medical check, they were transferred to immigration officials for interview.

The coastguard also rescued five men and one woman in a small boat, and found a second boat with eight men.

The number of known migrants making the Channel crossing in small boats reached more than 100 in November.
