2020's Day of the Seafarer will be for me the day of more than 200.000 persons waiting for tickets to family and vacation. The day that the world’s largest flag state Panama permitted that seafarers can stay up to 17 months on board. It became a day of shame as the maritime industry fails to look after its key workers who are keeping the business and the global economy running.
SEAFARER SUPPORTERS' WALL
We applaud you for your resilience through this horrible period of Coronavirus restrictions. We recognise your role as key workers. We recognise the sacrifices you and your families have made to ensure goods are still carried from A to B. We acknowledge the challenges of no shore leave and the mental struggle to keep sane with little idea of when you’ll be able to get ashore. We implore governments to allow you to get home for a well-deserved rest, and to help your families financially for those of you who have not been paid your full salaries for months.
